(Video) Waistline Wednesday :: Climbing Mountains

Climbing Mtns
It’s been a while since I posted a Waistline Wednesday, but I am still on my quest to whittle down my waistline. I love to find ways to get my little guys in on the action. And while doing workout videos together has been fun, variety is the spice of life. So the boys and I have switched up our workouts to include mountain climbing.

Finding The Motivation to Climb A Mountain

Well okay it’s not like we are truly climbing mountains, my boys are four and five for goodness sake. We have tackled a local “mountain” named Kennesaw Mountain. Kennesaw Mountain has several walking trails and the boys love it. I must say the trail is super challenging for me and on our first trek up my little guys had to give me a bit of a peep talk to make it to the top. When your five year old looks at you and says “Mommy you said, when things are hard you have to just keep trying. Don’t give up.” well you have no choice but to push on. Obviously I want to be a good role model for my boys, but I also want to always practice what I preach.

How Climbing A Mountain Became An Adventure

We NEVER tell the boys where we are going for two reason. 1) We don’t want them to nag us about when we will get there and 2)We don’t want them to be disappointed if things don’t go as planned. So with that said whenever the boys ask where are we going, we simply respond “On an adventure.” So as we made our way on the trail climbing over rocks, jumping over puddles, singing songs, throwing rocks and overall enjoying each others company my eldest son turned to me and said “This really is an adventure mommy.” I responded with a simple, “Life is an adventure baby.” I am happy to find a physical activity that we all can do that the boys enjoy and mommy can feel the burn.

Benefits of Climbing Mountains

The steady incline of the trail is what was most challenging, but what also made this workout/adventure amazing. My glutes were on fire after completing this workout, and who doesn’t want an awesome backside! In addition to a great buttock (muscle-building) workout walking on an incline also dramatically increases your calorie burn, increases your heart rate without the injury risk that running causes and turns your body into a fat burning machine.
